Before you hand off product catalog updates

**Standardize the format without inventing product facts.** Start with a small sample that represents your common product types.

- Choose five representative products, including one with variants and one with missing information.
- Identify the source of truth for each field: supplier feed, manufacturer page, approved internal record or another named source.
- Define required attributes for the product type. Include the unit and allowed values where relevant.
- Separate safe formatting changes from factual changes that require review.
- Specify how variants, identifiers and duplicate records should be handled.
- Flag missing or conflicting facts for the correct owner. Keep unsupported product claims out of the record.
- Check the output against the store's import format in a staging or review environment.
- Record who approves publishing and how to reverse an incorrect update.
