Software Developer

Move software requirements into working changes with evidence to review

A software developer turns scoped requirements into code changes, tests and implementation notes. Your bot works within your repository and engineering process, investigates existing behavior, develops the agreed change and prepares the evidence needed to review it and decide how it moves toward release.

Find my AI worker

The job behind the title

Give this work a clear owner.

A development backlog contains more than code to write. Requirements need clarification, existing behavior needs investigation and changes need verification. Teams lose momentum when a finished-looking implementation arrives without a clear explanation of its behavior, dependencies or remaining limitations.

Responsibilities

What your software developer can take on.

We shape these responsibilities around your systems, priorities and decision permissions.

01

Investigate the requirement

Read the relevant code and project guidance, reproduce the current behavior and identify the affected components and unclear acceptance criteria.

02

Implement the scoped change

Make the authorized code and configuration changes in the assigned development environment, following the project's conventions and dependency constraints.

03

Verify expected behavior

Run the checks appropriate to the change and inspect meaningful failure paths, recording what was tested and any environment limitations.

04

Prepare a reviewable handoff

Explain the resulting behavior, important tradeoffs and validation evidence, with the change set organized for your code review and release process.

A clear handoff

Your team provides
  • Requirements, acceptance criteria and repository access
  • Project architecture, coding conventions and environment instructions
  • Test data, verification tools and release authority

Illustrative workflow

See the role in practice.

An example of how the work could run, tailored during onboarding. This is not a customer case study.

The situation

A product team needs an export to include an additional field without changing the order of existing columns. Another process consumes the file, so backward compatibility matters.

The work

Your bot traces the export path, implements the scoped change and checks the resulting file against the acceptance criteria. It documents the compatibility assumptions and prepares the code for the team's review process.

When something needs attention

If the requested field exposes data beyond the export's current permissions, the bot flags the access issue and follows the agreed design decision process before expanding what the file contains.

Onboarding & continued development

The right fit gets better
with the right support.

01

Find the right fit

We learn the job, your expectations and how your team works. Then we select and configure an AI worker for the role.

02

Onboard with confidence

We help your bot learn your systems, policies and preferences. Together, we review its work and prepare it for the responsibilities you agree on.

03

Keep getting better

We stay involved, review performance and continue coaching your bot. You have a human Botsource contact when the work needs attention.

What we help your bot learn

  • Repository structure, conventions and architecture decisions
  • Development environments, test practices and data boundaries
  • Review, deployment and change authorization rules

How we can review performance

  • Changes meeting their agreed acceptance criteria
  • Review rework caused by missing context or verification
  • Defects identified after changes enter the release process

We agree on targets and review methods together. These are proposed measures, not claimed results.

Before you get started

Questions about this role.

Can the bot work in an existing codebase?

Yes. Onboarding includes the repository's guidance, architecture, development setup and review process. The work starts by understanding the relevant behavior and constraints, rather than assuming that a new implementation can ignore existing callers or conventions.

Can it deploy changes?

Deployment can be included if the access, checks and release authority are explicitly assigned. Development, review and release remain distinct workflow steps, with the bot carrying out the portions authorized for your project.

How do we judge whether the work is complete?

Use the agreed acceptance criteria and the evidence relevant to the change, including behavior checks and any necessary tests. The handoff should state unresolved limitations so a code change is not mistaken for fully verified production behavior.
